Nido Paras
I travel in search of enjoyment and self-expression. And although my love of travel started before I consciously appreciated the art in my photography, the two have always been inextricably fused. My favorite photographs so far have come from my travels in Europe, Mexico and Asia. In these places, where diverse cuisine, history, art, and culture provide ample opportunities for discovery and adventure, I am inspired to find and expose the subtle elegance hidden in ordinary things.
There are infinite possibilities for making art by interpreting what is in front of you. This is the discovery that makes the mundane and common-place fresh again. I feel that there is a difference between taking a picture and creating art, between simply seeing and engaging in thoughtful observation. Through my photographs I mean to say to the observer, “Look at what is hidden!” and perhaps provide some compelling reason to linger.
It was not until a year ago, with the generous support and encouragement of family and friends, that I found the time and space to focus and commit myself to becoming a serious photographer. There are so many more places to visit, so much more to see. I feel that this work is really just the beginning and I look forward to continuing my exploration of the world around me.
