There are only seven days and counting. We feel pretty good about this ride. We are physically ready. We had a great ride in San Francisco and Marin. We took BART to Embarcadero and rode across the Golden Gate Bridge to the Marin Headlands. We ate in Sausalito where 2 pancakes and coffee cost $10 (couldn’t find a Denneys). It was difficult riding through the masses of tourists and trying to ride across the bridge with many of them who had not ridden bikes much. It was kind of dangerous. But we made it and since we went Saturday 06/21 the weather was great. The headlands had amazing views of the Bay and the Pacific (no fog).
So now is the time to remember everything we need to bring. I just realized that we will bring 10% of what we need and 90% for the “what if” factor. What if I get hurt, I get sick, my bike breaks, we get lost, we get mugged, I get cold, I get hot, I get hungry, I get thirsty, I get homesick-not. I bet Noah didn’t think of half of this stuff. We are definitely spoiled.
In addition to "what if’s" this week will involve getting all the at-home stuff done and riding a few times to keep the legs moving. We will do our daily rides, but no long ones. Then, we will map out the ride, lube the equipment, install new tires and tubes, wash the bike clothes and be ready to leave on Sunday, 6/29. Oh, and make sure we have cash, and batteries, a book, a light, tooth paste... I know I am going to forget something. No, I am not taking my guitar.
Well, that’s about it. Thanks to each and every one of you who has written a check or pushed the button to send funds using Pay pal on the SRAF website to support this worthy cause. This ride is to raise some much-needed funds for the ARTS in the San Ramon area so please if you haven’t sent a few bucks yet, please do so. It will make those aching muscles feel so much better.
Watch for the “on the road” additions to our BLOGS.
Thanks and see you on the road.
